Granite
is a very hard, granular, crystalline,
igneous rock consisting mainly of
quartz, mica, and feldspar and often used as a building stone. Granite's color is dependent on the amount of feldspar present and may be pink, dark grey, or light grey. It is widely believed that granite is an igneous rock, however it sometimes will grade into
metamorphic rock and even show
sedimentary features. Because of its durability and abundance, granite has been used throughout history as a building stone.
